Three Woodcuts

Artist Statement

I create visual images to express emotions that reveal themselves in forms, shapes, and structures—to make them intelligible and pleasing. I have found the process of making a woodcut uniquely rewarding, from initial design, through the intermediary of carving and inking a wood block, to the final printing on paper. The experience is very tactile, and I enjoy the flow of the process. It is a source of great satisfaction how an idea reveals itself from the first strokes to the expectancy surrounding the emergence of the final print.
