Audvantgardener: Acrylic & Watercolor

Artist Statement

The paintbrush is my weapon of choice these days as I create mixed media paintings using acrylics or oil with watercolor. It’s never been my intention, but red, black and white always seem to be a common denominator in my pieces. I’ve always loved the dramatic contrast and power that black and white images create. Red is intense and one of those colors that automatically demands your attention. I’m invigorated by relationships, feelings and emotions.  I want my work to captivate the viewer’s senses. With “Audvantgardener” I wanted to create something experimental that partially masked the subject’s external allure and placed emphasis on image and self-perception. I think we all experience internal struggles with our true identity versus people’s perception. The watercolor represents the daily chaos we encounter.
