Man: Honey, I really want to support you. I know it’s a lot with the kids and school and disinfecting the mail and everything.
Woman: Oh. Yes. Thanks! Actually, you could help with dinner. Or sanitizing the doorknobs and light switches. And the laundry—that would be great. There’s always a big pile of clothes right over there and you could just fold a few things when you have a few minutes.
Man: Okay (slips in earbuds). You just let me know (calling over shoulder as he exits). Whatever you need. I’m here for you.
Suzanne LaFetra Collier’s work has appeared in Creative Nonfiction, The Sun, Brevity, The Christian Science Monitor, JuxtaProse, Smokelong Quarterly, on KQED-FM, and in many other literary journals and anthologies. She co-directed and produced the award-winning documentary film, FREE: The Power of Performance, which appeared on PBS, and one of her essays is being developed into a short film. She is the recipient of Goddard College’s Engaged Artist Award where she is currently an MFA candidate.
