First Place: K. Vaghela
How does one mourn
a not-dead, a once-here-but
not here? The clothes
hanging still,
the drawers slight-
ly ajar with bits,
pieces of old life lingering
in tight corners: like my
fought-back tears.
There -a tiny village, peacocks
frolicking in rising dust-
He is, star ablaze.
